48 Years of Service

This month my dad retired from the State of Minnesota after working for them for 48 years. He started right out of high school when he was 18 and has worked there since. He has been a great role-model on hard work and commitment. When I was in grade school he used to bring my sister and I with him to work during our Christmas vacation. We loved sitting at the big drafting tables and drawing on the backs of old blueprints. He likes to say that he thought of the "bring your child to work day." I would continue to visit him as I grew up and continued even with my boys. I'll miss taking the boys in to see him and having him take them around the office to show them off. But I do have a back-up babysitter now that will be available more often. :)

My dad was a draftsman for the bridge department of the MN Deparment of Transportation. He has drawn the plans for many of the bridges around the state. When we would drive through the state he would always point out his bridges. Now as we drive along I am pointing out the bridges and telling the boys "there's grandpa's bridge."
