Before I can tell about my birthday I need to tell a story about my birthday from many years ago.My good friend Shayla's birthday is just 4 days after mine. So when we were turning 4, our mothers thought that a joint birthday party would be a great idea. The party was at a local park and our moms invited several of our friends and we had a fun little party. Until it came to the birthday cake. Now you need to know that my friend's mom is a diabetic as well as her father is a dentist. So needless so say, when we were little they didn't eat a lot of sugar at their house. So our moms thought that instead of having sugary birthday cake they would have a watermelon cut in half with candles. When my mom put the watermelon in front of me I gritted my teeth and told her, "I hate watermelon." She didn't believe me and replied that I indeed did not like watermelon. Somehow I got over the fact that I did not have a birthday cake for my party(as evidenced by the picture above) but it has pretty much been a big joke ever since. (And I still do not like watermelon.)
So for awhile now we have joked that we should have a "watermelon" cake for my birthday some year. Tom did just that this year. He has a co-worker whose hobby is baking and so he hired her to bake a "watermelon" cake. It was a very delicious cake. And she did a great job on it. We had my parents over and my mom thought it was a great cake. Thanks Tom!
My "watermelon" cake that tasted much better than the real thing.
William helped me blow out my candles. We decided that we wouldn't put all 35 candles on the cake.

Love it Karin! What a neat thing that Tom remembered that story! What a great way to celebrate the day!
