Black Friday

This year Tom and I went out early shopping on Black Friday for the second time. Last year was my first time going and I was truly surprised and amazed at how many people were standing in line at our local Target at 6 am. Since Tom's sister was staying with us during Thanksgiving we headed out and found a few items while she watched the kids once they woke up.

This year found us staying at Tom's sister's house in Ankeny, Iowa. Once again she said she would watch the kids so that we could head out and be a part of the craziness. And this year I think we were really crazy. Tom wanted to go to Best Buy and since the Des Moines area only has 2 stores we had to decide between the store in Clive (another Des Moines suburb) or Ames (about 30 minutes north of Ankeny). So we decided that our best chance would be to go to the store in Ames since that would probably draw less Des Moines people and most of the people who live in Ames are students at Iowa State who would be home for the Thanksgiving break. We also wanted to go to Target and pick up some of the deals they were offering. Best Buy opened at 5 am and Target opened at 6 am. I got the crazy idea that we could tag team and if Tom dropped me off first at Target I could get into line while he went to Best Buy and return before Target opened. So that is just what we did. We woke up at 3:45 am and drove the 30 minutes to Ames. Tom dropped me off at Target at 4:30 am where I was the 5th person in line. Tom went onto Best Buy where there already was a sizeable line. He was able to get into the store and purchase a printer for us and the guitar hero for his brother-in-law. Then he met back up with me at Traget aroun 5:40 where we waited until 6 am for Target to open. As we walked into Target all the employees were telling us to 'walk' which was rather comical. We got everything we went for there and called it a successful Black Friday trip.

I'm already starting to plan what we are going to do next year. I really like working together with Tom as a team. I'll just have to figure out who is going to stay back and watch the kids while we are gone. And thanks again Carol for watching the kids. Even if you had a little visitor in your bed early. :)

I like shopping on Black Friday. At our Target the lady gave an announcement to all of us in line...no pushing, no pulling hair, no running, etc...I agree it was comical.
